I Paid Ghc1000 To Each Delegate …NPP Ashanti Regional Chairmanship Contender

An unsuccessful aspirant for the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revealed that he paid Ghc1000 each to the delegates that voted in the election.

Robert Asare Bediako, says he thought he was paying hefty bribes that were good enough to make delegates vote for him, however, he has been surprised to find out that what he paid was peanut compared to what others were offering, hence his loss in the election.

“Whiles I was paying each delegate GH¢1,000, I thought I would win but some paid more than me so the delegates also gave in to the highest bidder and it’s very worrying the trend of monetization in our body politic,” he is quoted by 3News as saying.

At least 802 delegates voted in the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairmanship race. If Asare Bediako paid Ghc1,000 each, then he alone paid at least Ghc802,000 in bribes to the delegates for election.

However, the delegates still voted against him because the eventual winner paid fatter bribes according to him.

The election had come on Saturday, May 28, 2022. Controversial incumbent Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Wontumi, retained his seat,

Wontumi swept 464 while his closest contender, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, also known as Chairman Coka, got 306 votes.

Robert Asare Bediako secured only 20 votes for his troubles.
