Bar Association Puts Ghc20, 000 Bounty On Heads Of Assassins Of Lawyer Badombie

In what appears to be a kneejerk awakening, the Ghana Bar Association is offering Ghc20, 000 to anybody who will give information that will lead to the arrest of the suspected armed robbers who shot and killed an Accra-based lawyer, Richard Badombie, on the Bole-Bamboi highway in the Savannah region.

In a statement issued in Accra, the GBA said the money is readily available provided the information offered is credible.

“The GBA also urges the general public to volunteer information to the security agencies to enable them thoroughly investigate the matter with a view to identifying the perpetrators of the crime and making them suffer the consequences of their action. The GBA stands ready and prepared to give a reward of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC20,000.00) to anyone who volunteers credible and legitimate information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the crime,” the GBA stated.

This move has come as a curious one, given the partisan silence of the GBA throughout the rampant state-sponsored murders of Ghanaian citizens and the dictatorial clampdown of dissent by the Akufo Addo administration.

Throughout the complaints by critics that the rising crime rate is a result of the Akufo Addo administration compromising the security agencies by drafting its party militia into the security system, the GBA had opted to bootlick the administration in what critics have described as their highly partisan stance.

It, therefore, appears that the cold-blooded murder of one of their members has struck fear in the GBA that nobody is safe from the blatant display of tyranny by the Akufo Addo administration.

Lawyer Badombie was attacked and shot dead by supposed armed robbers while driving his family to Jirapa over the weekend.

In a bizarre assassination, the robbers did not shoot any other person or take anything after killing him.

According to Police reports, on reaching a section of the road between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri, three men signalled the victim, who was driving with two other occupants, to stop the vehicle.

While slowing down, the suspects shot and killed him.

The development has led to all manner of suspicions especially because Lawyer Badombie’s last post on Facebook before his murder decried the fact that the country is in a mess and that it needs a messiah to save it.

The GBA decried the killing as just a culmination of rampant armed robbery cases in the country and implored the law enforcement agencies to do everything possible to arrest and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The Ghana Bar Association, with particular reference to the incident of Saturday, the 28th day of May 2022, involving our departed colleague, Richard Badombie, humbly and respectfully implores the relevant security agencies to carry out swift and thorough investigations of the incident in order to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime and make them face the full rigors of the law,” the GBA stated.

Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Police say they have arrested three suspects over the crime.

Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Agyekum Owusu has said efforts are underway to arrest two other suspects.

“After the incident – that was on the Saturday dawn – the Savannah Regional Command moved to the scene and with the help of the intelligence unit in the Region, we’ve been able to round up some three suspects, who we are profiling to see if they are the actual culprits.”

The suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 29, 2022, and are in the custody of police helping with investigations.

“We have a target of about five suspects. Some people commit crimes and leave some traces and with the help of the intelligence unit, we’ve been able to get the traces”, he told the media.
