In what can be described as a shocking development, Ghana’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has advertised an invitation to Ghanaian health professionals to make themselves available to be pimped out to hospitals in the UK.
Curiously, YEA is serving as the recruiter for a private company in the UK.
An advert that YEA has put out encouraging the brain drain for nurses with degrees and diplomas reads: “Are you an experienced Health Professional with a diploma or degree from an accredited Health institution, Are you willing to take a Health Care job in the UK, do you have an IELTS score 6? An international company based in the UK seeks your services for immediate employment.”
It states a deadline for application as 10th June 2022 and provides a special registration link on its website.
Incidentally, Ghana is severely lacking health professionals, including Nurses. It, therefore, appears counter-productive for a state agent to be encouraging the exodus of health professionals from Ghana when the age-old complaint against brain drain continues.
