Kofi Jumah Confirms Akyem – Ashanti Fault lines In NPP

Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the Chief Executive Officer of GHIOC Distilleries, has confirmed the ominous Akyem versus Ashanti turf war going on within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying he hoped his son’s marriage to President Akufo-Addo’s daughter, will heal the wounds.

President Akufo Addo is regarded as the Akyem Mafia boss within the NPP and he is reportedly aggressively breaking the influence of the rival faction from the Ashanti Region.

In what has been reported as a goodwill message to his son Kwabena Jumah, and his new wife, Edwina Dokua Akufo-Addo, Kofi Jumah also makes reference to a reported longstanding hatred between Akufo-Addo and former President Kufuor, saying he hopes the marriage of his Ashanti son and Akufo-Addo’s Akyem daughter would heal the relationship.

“The significance of their marriage is the togetherness they have brought into the governing party. This is of big significance to me, it also sends a strong message for me, Maxwell Kofi Jumah,” Jumah stated.

“My wife is Bono, I am Ashanti and my son has been able to marry an Akyem whose half is also an Ashanti. God bless them,” Kofi Jumah said on Accra-based Okay FM on Thursday, April 21, 2022.

In regards to the chaotic relationship between former President Kufuor and Mr. Akufo-Addo, Mr. Jumah said the marriage unifies them as well.

It is not clear if the whole of the Ashanti faction within the NPP feels as buoyed by Kofi Jumah’s son’s marriage as the man would have everybody think.

This is because, according to insiders, the Ashantis who form the backbone of the NPP strongly feel it is their turn to take control of the party after Akufo-Addo.

However, Akufo-Addo and the Akyems are reportedly scheming to perpetuate themselves by pushing Vice President Bawumia, a Mamprusi at the helm of the NPP after Akufo Addo’s tenure to serve as a puppet.

The move has started a battle of wills within the party as they prepare for a showdown in the Presidential Primaries for the 2024 elections.
