NDC In A Fix Om Replaces General Mosquito As General Secretary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is currently in a fix on who to replace its charismatic General Secretary, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, whose long tenure would soon end.

Popularly called “General Mosquito ” Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s cult in the NDC is such that if he were to request to be made General Secretary for life, the party would probably still endorse him, Whatsup News gathered.

However, after 16 years at the helm as scribe, the word is that General feels the time has come for him to move on to other things, putting the NDC in a predicament on who can fit his big shoes.

Three names have so far gone into circulation – Peter Boamah Otukonor, a current Deputy General Secretary, Mr. Fiifi Fiavi Kwettey, the NDC’s current Member of Parliament for Ketu South and Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the NDC’s Director of Elections.

And these three names have been stirring up vibes within the party even though the gentlemen behind them have not openly declared intention yet.

Most people in the NDC feel that any desire that Peter Boamah Otukonor has for a climb up to the position of General Secretary will very likely end badly because the young man has not yet built the kind of profile that would be expected of a successor to the larger than life General Mosquito.

It is felt that Mr. Otukonor would serve himself better if he ran for re-election as a Deputy General Secretary and mature his profile first before reaching for that crucial chief scribe job.

Mr. Otukonor’s predicament, it is said, is not helped by the fact that Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah may be preparing to run for the General Secretary position.

The generality of NDC members believe that the party won the 2020 elections but had been out-muscled by the NPP government of Akufo-Addo who reportedly used the military, the Police and the Electoral Commission to steal the vote.

Most of the credit for the perceived win is given to Mr. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, who is seen to have brought focus to the party’s election directorate and executed an electoral campaign that managed to at least get the NDC to split Parliament with the ruling NPP if even the presidential election was stolen.

Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah,therefore, sits in the thoughts of the party’s members as a man who can probably bring more to the electoral fortunes of the NDC if he gets a position like the General Secretary’s where he would have more sway.

Mr. Afriyie is also perceived as militant, something the NDC grassroots have been demanding of their leadership.

The desire for militant leaders seriously works against Mr. Fiifi Kwettey who is seen as a genteel character. In fact of the three names for the next General Secretary job in the NDC, Fiifi Kwettey is very quickly dismissed by many who see him as too docile and theoretical.

It must be said that this perception could be the doing of Fiifi Kwettey himself who has, since getting into Parliament, sort of groomed himself as a man angling for the presidency.

Many believe Fiifi Kwettey has been readying himself for a call up as a potential Running Mate to a future NDC flagbearer who will come after President John Mahama has had a second shot at the party’s flagbearership.

With Mr. Mahama apparently set on Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Fiifi Kwettey’s hope of becoming a running mate is only likely to happen at all in either 2028 or beyond that.

Meanwhile, Whatsup News has heard General Mosquito himself is angling for the National Chairmanship of the NDC. If this is true, then the current Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo may have to start numbering his days in office because of the larger-than-life cult of General Mosquito in the NDC.
