Akufo-Addo, Announces Budget Cuts For MDAs In Austerity Move

Even as public sector salaries for February are reportedly delayed, the government is constrained to cut the budget of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as the Akufo-Addo government’s collapse of the Ghanaian economy deepens.

President Akufo-Addo, while giving the keynote address at the 2022 National Labour Conference at Kwahu in the Eastern Region on Monday, announced that up to 20% in the budgetary allocations of MDAs would be slashed.

“Government on its part is implementing a policy of cutting the budgets of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies by 20% this year as its contribution,” the President said.

While cutting budgets to essential agencies, Akufo Addo’s Jubilee House and luxury lifestyle have not taken any dent in the austerity measures. He has abandoned the official Presidential Jet and has been globetrotting in a gold-plated first-class private jet hired to him from one of the most expensive sources in the world.

In a matter of just weeks, the president was said to have blown over Ghc10million on private jet rides.
