Is Bawumia The Only Person In The NPP …Dr. Amoako Baah fires

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Amoako Baah, has denounced reported attempts by President Akufo-Addo to foist Vice President Bawumia on the party as the next flagbearer as unacceptable.

In an interview with Media General’s Williams Evans Nkum, Dr. Amoako Baah said the Vice President has had his opportunity at the presidency and must now make way for others.

“Just because you hold a certain position does not make you an automatic candidate, there were other people there before you came,” he jabbed.

According to him, even though Bawumia is not a thoroughbred NPP man, the party had exercised longsuffering for him and Akufo-Addo to contest for the presidency three times before being fourth time lucky.

And now that Bawumia is having a second term as Vice President, he should be thankful and make way after that because he is not the only one in the party.

He fired: “Nana Addo brought Bawumia in, Bawumia was not an NPP inside man, he went, they lost, went again they lost, went again they lost. That is 12 years. 12 years of others in line still waiting….In most countries this thing will not happen, two times you are out. Are you the only person in the party?”

Many in the NPP feel that Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanten, who has been contesting for the flagbearership of the NPP since after the presidency of John Kufuor in 2008, is now the next in line to lead the NPP.

But President Akufo-Addo is reportedly trying to perpetuate a hegemony that his government has been even after finishing a second term and leaving office, by making Bawumia party leader through whom he can remote control the party as puppet master.

Insiders say this battle of wills threatens to pull the party apart.
