Senyo Hosi Runs From Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s E-Levy Birthday Cake

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, Senyo Hosi, has rejected claims that he is the source of the controversial “E-Levy” cake at the 65th birthday of Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

In a long epistle, Mr. Hosi explains he neither sponsored the cake, designed it nor even took part in cutting it.

According to him, he was at the party to participate in marking a milestone in the life of the Majority Leader who is a longstanding friend.

“I am not responsible for the E-levy cake nor did I partake in its cutting. As a guest at anyone’s party, I do not hold responsibility for the type of cake that is ordered or gifted by anyone. I was present when the cake was delivered and can confirm neither OKMB nor the Minority was responsible for the supply of the cake. It was a surprise gift from the very person who delivered the cake,” Mr. Hosi explained.

“It is a known fact that I am friends with and keep relationships with a number of our leaders on both sides of the political divide (NDC and NPP). As matter of fact, I join in most of their celebrations. These relationships do not define my opinion on issues of policy or my position on the trajectory of our dear nation. These relationships enlighten my perspectives and effectively shape my ability to proffer real solutions on issues of policy. I am my own man and my thoughts are my own,” Mr. Senyo Hosi wrote.

The reason he has been mired in the e-levy cake controversy in one of a number of photographs from the Kumasi bash, Mr. Hosi is seen sitting and gawking at the gargantuan green cake that had been flagged as extremely insensitive on the part of the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu and Vice President Bawumia who revered at the party during Mensah-Bonsu’s 65th birthday.

That cake has since stirred up annoyance in Ghana as many have interpreted the cake’s design as the Majority and their leader’s way of mocking strong and passionate resistance that Ghanaians have mounted up against the levy which seeks to tax the savings of Ghanaians.

Since the photos emerged, Ghanaians, especially on social media have blasted the Majority for their construed disrespectful parody of the people’s opposition to the obnoxious tax.

Meanwhile, whatever encouragement that Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s E-Levy cake was meant to have on the e-levy debate has nosedived badly, forcing the Majority to scramble for cover.

In the attempt to do damage control, Ranking Member on the Roads Committee of Parliament, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, claimed that the cake had been donated to Kyei Mensah Bonsu by the Minority in Parliament.

But the Minority has dared him to name the Minority MP who donated the cake.
