Sack Letter Of GACL MD Gave No Reason, This Is Bad …security expert

Security and Fraud Consultant, Richard Kumadoe, has observed that the manner of the dismissal of the Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited is strange and does not conform to proper corporate practice.

In an interview on Happy FM, he observed that the sack letter communicating the dismissal did not even explain why the MD was fired, making the dismissal of Mr. Yaw Kwakwa rather strange.

“Another relevant thing I noted from the letter was that it didn’t provide any reason for his dismissal,” Mr. Kumadoe stated, adding, “Leaving such a letter vacant will only allow other conspirators and political activists to feed on politics as usual.”

Mr. Kwakwa was sacked via a letter from President Akufo-Addo which had been channeled through a convoluted route through the Transport Ministry to the Board of the GACL.

Without stating the MD’s offense, the letter directed that he be written to and informed that he has been sacked.

It is widely believed that Yaw Kwakwa was axed as a result of his confrontation with McDan Aviation, a company owned by Daniel McKorley, a bankroller of the campaigns of President Akufo-Addo.

McDan had erected a private jet terminal at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in spite of the GACL forbidding him to.

McDan Aviation’s snobbish attitude led to the GACL boycotting the commissioning ceremony of the terminal and asking him to close it down while demanding that the company also pay over Ghc30milluion owed to the GACL.

Mr. Kumadoe points out that even the way the sack letter was routed is problematic.

“I’ve seen the letter, but it is very unclear to me when it comes to the appointment and approval or dismissal of the appointment of the Airport MD. Whose responsibility is it to take that decision? Will it be the responsibility of the Board Chairman to sack the MD? Or the responsibility of the Minister to sack the MD? Kumadoe asked.

“Then if it was the Minister’s responsibility to sack the MD, why was the MD not given a straightforward letter than to direct it to Board Chairman. So corporate governance issues in Africa, predominantly Ghana with this recent incidence, will be one of the test cases they must run with. Other than that, ‘He who hires, fires. Therefore, once you’re hired by somebody, you can be fired for whatever reason.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Yaw Kwakwa claims he has not officially been served the sack letter.

“I don’t know what you are talking about. My appointment has not been terminated, so if you have any evidence… I don’t know about it, but when I get to that bridge, I will cross it,” Mr. Kwakwa told the media.
