The brutal Ghana Police Force blew off the face of one with bullets, killed at least one, and injured about a dozen more when the Police ran rampage on a group of unarmed civilians in the Lamashegu in the northern part of the country.
The police had clashed with the youth of the town after they brutally chased for driving an unlicensed vehicle.
The young man is reported to have dashed into the Lamashe-Naa’s palace to escape the assault which is reminiscent of several ones recorded recently where the security agencies had conducted summary execution on the alleged culprits of supposed disturbances or misdemeanour.
According to eyewitnesses, the police shot the young man before he could get into the palace.
This sparked anger and caused a riot by young people in the town against the police. The police officers involved in the situation started shooting indiscriminately into the crowd and killed one as well as seriously injuring several others.
Whatsup News has seen videos of the police officers shooting into the crow. In one scene, the face of a bystander had been completely blown off by bullets. It is unclear if that individual would survive.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has issued a statement today, Monday, February 14, 2022, announcing that six officers involved in the murderous shooting have been interdicted.
“The Police Administration has also dispatched a team of investigators led by the Deputy Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DCOP/Mr. Frederick Agyei to lead the investigation into the matter,” read the statement signed by DCOP Kwesi Ofori, the Police PRO.
“We would like to assure the public that anybody found culpable will be dealt with according to the law,” the statement read.
But, this is the umpteenth time rogue police officers in uniform have executed unarmed citizens since the commencement of the Akufo Addo administration.
The first major one was at the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency in the Greater Accra Region. Afterwards security agents shot and killed over half a dozen people during the 2020 elections.
One of the more recent ones also includes the indiscriminate shooting into a crowd in Ejura in the Ashanti Region. The crowd was protesting the brutal killing of a social activist by suspected thugs of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), when the soldiers were unleashed on them. Two people were killed and several others injured.
