ECG Increasing Connection Service Charges From This February

As Ghanaians grapple with heavy taxes, increases in the cost of goods and services, and the potential being saddled with an obnoxious electronic transaction levy, a document circulating among the staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana indicates the state power distributor is increasing its service connection charges by almost 300%.

The document, titled “New Service Connection Charges”, shows the company will be charging GH¢1,020.00 for a single-phase meter instead of the existing GH¢400.00.

It indicates the new charges have been approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission and include are VAT/NHIL deductions.

The circular indicates, however, that meter replacements will be free while three-phase meters, will cost consumers GHC 1,920, instead of the previous GH¢700.
