-Over Fake Essipon Stadium Rehabilitation.
Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan in the Western Region, Joe Ghartey, has exposed claims by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta that the rotting multi-million-dollar Essipon Stadium in Takoradi was 90% rehabilitated.
Ken Ofori-Atta made this fantastic claim during the presentation of the 2022 Budget recently.
However, in a letter to Mustapha Yussif, Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Ghartey said Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta did not state the true facts when he claimed that the rehabilitation of the stadium has been 90% completed.
Joe Ghartey who is nursing a presidential ambition in 2024 on the ticket of the governing NPP stated that the minister’s claim was rather the opposite of the real state of the stadium upon his inspection of the stadium, asking the Sports Minister to inform the Finance Minister to revise his notes.
“The Finance Minister in the Budget Statement delivered on Wednesday, 17th November 2021 stated that the rehabilitation work on the Essipon stadium is 90% completed. My checks reveal otherwise. As a member of Parliament for the area, I would be grateful if you could furnish me with the update of the said project, which is located in my constituency,” Hon. Joe Ghartey stated in the 19th November 2021 letter.
Mr. Ghartey advised the Sports Minister to correct the anomaly if it is the case that he has misled the Finance Minister into lying to the public.
“Furthermore, if the information given is inaccurate, please furnish the Finance Minister with the accurate information to enable him to advise himself accordingly.”
He added for good measure that, “The project is of great interest to me and my constituency.”
