IGP Will Be Confirmed, Akufo-Addo Hints

Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo-Dampare will soon be confirmed as substantive IGP.

President Akufo-Addo gave the hint after heaping praise on the man he appointed as Acting IGP on July 21, 2021.

“He has so far vindicated my decision to appoint him,” President Akufo-Addo said on Friday, October 1.

Since his appointment, Dr. Akuffo-Dampare has been a tough muscle on crime, especially armed robbery, with Police constantly on the beat and bettering criminals in shootouts.

The current IGP has also been overseeing better Police visibility around the country and swift discipline of errant officers.

Additionally, his short tenure has seen the constabulary energise its public relations with swift, real-time and professional updates of police activities, as the Acting Director of Public Affairs, ACP Kwasi Fori constantly under the spotlight to update the country.

Already, experts have called for the swift confirmation of the Acting IGP. One of them, Security analyst, Mr. Adam Bonaa, has even said the confirmation is urgently needed.

“I am praying the President will as a matter of urgency quickly get him confirmed as the substantive IGP so that he can restructure the Ghana Police service,” Mr Bonaa told Alfred Ocansey on the 360 News on TV3 Wednesday, July 21.
