The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has said that the ban on the recruitment of Ghanaians to work in the Gulf States is still in force.
A reiteration of the ban was communicated over the weekend.
The Ministry however clarified that the ban does not affect lawful recruitment of skilled labor to the Gulf States.
In February 2018 government placed a ban on the recruitment of interested Ghanaians for odd jobs in gulf countries.
This was after numerous reports of abuse at the hands of their Arab employers, including alleged murders and sexual molestations surfaced.
As part of measures to implement the ban, the Employment Ministry’s labor department had been instructed to stop the issuance of licenses to employment agencies to engage in such businesses.
But a coalition of licensed migration agencies and returnee migrants has called on the government to lift the ban.
