A pro-government group which describes itself as ‘Save The Elephant Ghana’ is alleging that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who have not been re-nominated by President Akufo-Addo in the second round of appointments have started moves to sabotage the confirmation of the President’s nominees.
According to a statement by the group, sulking MMDCEs who are on their way out are bribing Assembly Members to reject the President’s nominees when the time comes for confirmation votes by the various Assemblies,
According to the allegation, the bribe payers are calling the bribe “losing bonus.”
“Fellow Patriots it has come to our notice that some applicants of the MMDCEs positions in the various Regions who suspect that their names will not be considered and mentioned tomorrow 19th September by the Local Government Minister have started organizing assembly members in their respective districts and paying them different sums of Money ranging from Ghc2,000 to Ghc7,000 which they term as LOSING BONUS,” the group said in a statement.
“We are again reliably informed that these monies and other material things such as TV sets, Refrigerators, etc. are ostensibly given to the assembly members to entice them to reject the President’s choice of the MMDCEs.”
The statement is signed by one Kwame Agyeman Diasempa who describes himself as Chief Patriot.
The statement continued that, “Save the Elephant Ghana sees this move as a catalyst for causing confusion and destroying the very foundations of the party that is hoping to break the eight (8) in the 2024 Elections. We are also aware of the orchestrators of these devilish acts to cause disaffection within the rank and file of the party. “
It also called on the security agencies especially the Ghana police service to remain on high alert in the coming days as we prepare to confirm the various MMDCEs across the 16 Regions.
