Guinea Coup More Peaceful Than 2020 Elections In Ghana …Haruna Atta

The September 5, 2021 coup d’etat which toppled Guinean President, Alpha Conde, is the lesser of two evils compared to the 2020 elections in Ghana, says Ghana’s former Ambassador to Namibia and Botswana, H.E. Alhaji Abdulraman Haruna Atta.

In a write-up, the veteran journalist credits the coup maker, Mamady Doumbouya and his soldiers for carrying out the putsch bloodlessly, contrasting to the 2020 elections in Ghana under President Akufo-Addo which resulted in the killing of at least 8 and the injuring of many more.

“To the credit of the Guinea coup makers, they did not harm the deposed head of state in any way, with the exception of his dignity, which is in tatters, what with all those embarrassing pictures of him that have gone viral,” Haruna Atta stated.

“Video clips have also appeared showing former ministers and appointees of the former government being taken away with taunts of “thieves, thieves” from the public. It is also worth noting that the coup was peaceful, something we cannot say of Ghana’s 2020 elections, which registered deaths and injuries, with the culprits still roaming free,” he wrote.

After state security forces shot and killed protesting voters, President has refused to acknowledge the deaths.

On 5th September, a coup in Guinea toppled President Alpha Condé. The Guinean presidential palace and its environs came under heavy gunfire from the Special Forces Group, led by Mamady Doumbouya.
