The unionized staff of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) is warning it will resist moves by the Management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to take over a piece of land belonging to the state broadcaster.
On Monday, the Chairman of the GBC Unionized Staff, Sam Nat Kevor, wrote to the Divisional Chairman of the GRA, expressing unhappiness over GRA Management’s covetousness. Mr. Kevor also asked the unionized staff of the GRA to warn its Management to stop its move.
“This is also to (implore) our comrades to take steps to rein in their management to stop the unlawful takeover of GBC lands,” the letter said.
The land in question is described by the letter as “GBC Old House lands near Jubilee House and is said to have come under the invasion of bulldozers from the GRA.
“This development is disturbing the rather peaceful industrial atmosphere at Broadcasting House. As Public Sector Unions, the least we will condone is to have labor disharmony between our two organizations,” the letter said.
It warned that GBC is also aware of fallow lands that are owned by the GRA across the country, including one that is located at the Airport near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The GRA can equally make use of this prime land for whatever it deemed it fit, and not expropriation of GBC lands. We are by this drawing the attention of GRA Unionized staff to this illegality which GBC workers shall resist with all lawful means at our disposal,” the letter said.
