President Akufo-Addo has finally named his first District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee, nine clear months after winning a second term in office.
He announced Yawson Amoah as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the Akontombra District to the Chief and elders of the area.
President Akufo Addo has been struck with the predicament of intense jostling within his party that has rendered him almost impotent in clearing the stable of DCEs that he appointed in his first term. It is believed that interest groups within the ruling party are in hot contest whether to remove or not to remove certain DCE and replace them with others or not.
Mr. Yawson Amoah’s nomination follows an appeal by the Chief of Sefwi Akontombra, Nana Kwabena Ebi, and the Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Alex Tetteh for the DCE to be maintained.
Having been nominated, Mr. Yawson Amoah would now require the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of the members of the Akontombra District Assembly.
Article 243(1) of the 1992 constitution states that “there shall be a District Chief Executive for every district, who shall be appointed by the President with the prior approval of not less than two-thirds majority of members of the Assembly present and voting at the meeting.
