A sustainable development expert, Michael Ebo Amoah, has opined that Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia will be a difficult candidate to sell to voters in 2024 because of ongoing corruption in the Akufo-Addo government.
Speaking on ‘Frontline’ on Accra-based Rainbow Radio, Mr. Amoah who is also a lecturer said the Akufo-Addo government has allowed corruption to erode the goodwill that the government breezed into office with in 2017.
He gave the opinion while commenting on the raging Sputnik V vaccine purchase scandal involving Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu.
According to him, the only way out of the scandal for the government is to fire the Health Minister who went around Parliament and Cabinet to sign the shady supply deal with an amorphous company owned by an Emirati royal called Sheikh Dalmook Al Maktoum.
However, he laments that President Akufo-Addos’ posturing and attitude in the wake of the scandal shows he is not taking the matter seriously.
Indeed, the President joked on Tuesday in the Bono region that the Health Minister, who has taken a vacation is receiving slaps.
The lecturer points out that the Sputnik V vaccine scandal is just the latest in a long list of corruption scandals under the Akufo-Addo government and that these scandals are sure to work against the NPP’s election campaigns in 2024.
