Anti-Galamsey activist Barima Nana Yaw Buobu is alerting that the recent anti-illegal mining operations instigated by the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, have failed woefully.
According to him in an article seen by Whatsup News, illegal mining operations, popularly called “Galamsey” is back in full force at various illegal mining sites notwithstanding
He revels that the excavators that were burnt by soldiers of Operation Halt have been replaced with new ones as Ghanaians and Chinese galamseyers continue their illicit trade as though nothing happened.
“From Bibiani – Ahwiaso – Bekwai constituency, all those Excavators have come back to the site. Galamsey is back in full force as the Excavators were just held nearby and have all been brought back doing full-time galamsey work. Same story in Kyebi and Akwatia yesterday,” Yaw Buobu revealed.
“There was euphoria among the Galamsey guys in the two mentioned towns, as they have been instructed to resume their work. Plus other areas where galamsey terrorism led by the party in Gov’t big people are all returning to their sites.”
After years of failing to stop the Galamsey menace due to his appointees being implicated in the illegal activity, the Akufo administration re-launched another war on Galamsey. It was dubbed Operation Halt.
But critics had described it as a mere nine-day-wonder which will fail as well.
Even though Yaw Buobu’s information has not been independently verified by Whatsup News, there have been reports from other sources corroborating the fear.
