The days of Nii Adjei Sowah as the Mayor of Accra may be numbered as the election for new Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) gears up.
According to permutations on the ground, even though there are three contestants who have crowded him into a corner, the one who has seat by the rail is Nathaniel Naate Atswele Agbo Narte, a community Support Specialist.
The other contestants are Elizabeth Sackey, a former Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister and Reginald Niibii Ayibonte, former MP for Odododiodioo and Head of the Legal Department at AMA.
Nii Adjei Sowah, the incumbent Mayor is said to have been the architect of his own unpopularity with voters.
Even though President Akufo-Addo had positioned him to be a popular mayor by funding him to create more sub metros, he was not exactly illustrious in the task.
And the stark evidence that the Jubilee House backing of the mayor had failed greeted the NPP in the 2020 elections which saw the party lose many seats in Greater Accra Region.
According to information, President Akufo-Addo has since been measured with his faith in Nii Adjei Sowah after the outcome of the election.
Another lament that has been reported against Nii Adjei Sowah is his alleged arrogance.
These factors are what are said to have conspired against the current Accra Mayor and created a beckon of history for Mr. Nathaniel Nii Narte Agbo Narte a man who is a constituent of Ashiedu Keteke.
Meanwhile, the other contestants, Elizabeth Kwatso Sackey (Okaikoi North) and Reginald NiiBii Ayibonte (Ashiedu Keteke) are said to lack the cachet to be any threat to the two leading contestants.
For Reginald Ayibonte, he is seen as an opportunist who has been using his position as the Head of Legal at AMA for private practice.
