Speaker Bagbin To Address 60 Years Of Diplomatic Ties Between Ghana And Denmark

Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, has been invited to address a ceremony to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and Denmark.

A release from Parliament said the event will be virtual and will come off on June 16, 2021. It will also be used to mark the 2021 edition of Constitution Day in Denmark.

The Danish Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tom Norring extended the invitation when he paid a courtesy call on Speaker Bagbin in parliament.

Mr. Norring had primarily visited to invite the Speaker to the event, but used the opportunity to praise Ghana’s maturity into democratic practice.

According to him, after 30 years at it, Ghana has undisputedly become a beacon of democracy on the African continent.

On his part, Rt. Hon. Bagbin said there was the need for the two countries to initiate periodic dialogues to exchange ideas of mutual benefits.

“Denmark as we know has a high human resource development index with Sweden, Norway and Finland because they run social-democratic systems which focus on fairness, justice and equity due to their experience with the Kings and monarchy which they demolished long ago; and it is one of the countries Ghana can learn a lot from when it comes to multiparty democracy”, he said.
