Fire has razed more than 30 stalls at the Kumasi Central Market, Sunday night. It left in its wake charred remains of commodities being traded at the market.
According to information picked up by Whatsup News, the fire swept through the highly inflammable leather and footwear section of the market.
Most of the items destroyed were leather accessories and goods, including shoes, leathers, bags, sandals, etc.
Traders counting their losses put the value of the destroyed items in several hundreds of thousands of cedis.
The cause of the fire is not immediately known, but traders are not ruling out possible electrical sparks caused by the erratic electricity supply in the country currently.
The Deputy Ashanti Fire officer, ACFO Henry Giwah revealed that fire personnel had difficulty dousing the fire due to the incendiary nature of the leather goods set on fire.
According to him, investigations are presently ongoing to ascertain the cause of the fire.
