The National Teaching Council (NTC) will from May 2021, license all qualified teachers in the country and issue them registration numbers says the Ghana Education Service (GES).Education Service (
The announcement was contained in an April 14, 2021 letter to the Director-General of the GES.
“As part of the processes for teacher professionalization, the National Teaching Council (NTC) will issue Teachers’ license and registration numbers to all qualified teachers in the Ghana Education Service as well as those in private institutions. The licensing and registration exercise will commence in May 2021,” the NTC statement read.
The letter which was signed by the Registrar of the NTC, Prof. Christian Addai-Poku said as part of the process, all qualified teachers who were employed before 1st September 2018 are required to log on to the NTC’s Teacher Portal Ghana (TPG) via internet address www.tpg.ntc.gh to register.
The deadline for the registration on the portal is given as 7th May 2021.
“For the avoidance of doubt, qualified teachers are teachers who have been trained and certified as teachers by accredited colleges and universities that train teachers,” the letter clarified.
It noted that all teachers who were employed after August 31, 2018 are required to pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination to merit the license and registration number from NTC.
“Thus, their provisional license shall be replaced with a full license during the exercise.,” says the NTC.
The letter warned that “all qualified teachers who fail to avail themselves for this licensing and registration exercise shall lose their right to practice as teachers in Ghana.
