IGP Orders Interdiction Of Two Police Officers Over Black Market Gun-running

The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh, has ordered the interdiction of two Service personnel who attempted to sell guns on the black market.

According to reports, Lance Corporal Emmanuel Yao Abusah of Service No.48991 and Lance Corporal Sulemana Yussif, of Service No. 52698, both of the National Patrol Department, are also being held over the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

They are said to have attempted to sell firearms on 18th December 2020, after they took possession of the arms without lawful authority.

The Office of the IGP has explained that this action is in accordance with the Police Service Regulations, 2012 (C.I. 76).

The phenomenon of Police officers selling firearms to armed robbers or even lending their firearms to robbers in barter arrangements so that spoils of robberies can be shared with the Police is a notorious sub-culture among rogue Police officers in Ghana.
