Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has revealed the threats on his life on account of the corruption risk assessment he did into the Agyapa mineral royalties deal, have now been escalated into degrading insults on all Northerners.
He reveals that a certain Nana B, suspected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Youth Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, sent him a text message disparaging him as an “Ota ni.”
“Ota ni” is a derogatory reference to Northerners.
Mr. Amidu, a Kanjaga, shows copies of the threatening text messages sent to him in a statement he released over the weekend. In the said text message, the suspected Nana B accuses Amidu of tarnishing the image of the Akufo-Addo government by doing the corruption risk assessment on Agyapa, calling him a “gyimifuo,” meaning imbecile.
According to Amidu, the one who sent the insulting message had first called him on 0500007614 on November 19th, 2020, but he had not picked because of the numerous threats on his life. It was then that the caller sent him the message calling him ‘Otani gyimifo.”
Then on November 27th, 2020, the same number sent him another text calling him among other things, “kwasea,” and “foolish man” before insulting his late mother’s private part.
Mr. Amidu said because he did not have Nana B’s number on his phone, he asked one of his sons to ascertain the identity of the texter through a “True Caller” app. The app brought up Nana B. Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP National Youth Organizer is popularly known as Nana B.
However, Henry Nana Boakye has claimed that he is not the one and that he neither knows the number nor an email address that had followed the message. However, many believe he is being conservative with the truth.
Meanwhile, Mr. Amidu says he replied Nana B telling him he is proud of his Northern heritage and that the heroes of Ghana’s liberation fight had included many Northerners.
The resigned Special Prosecutor also warned Nana B that he will take him on at the appropriate time.
