Three Volta Region Communities Face Mass Disenfranchisement Over New Regions - WhatsUp News

Three Volta Region Communities Face Mass Disenfranchisement Over New Regions

Voters in Santrokofi, Akpafu and Lolobi, are likely to be disenfranchised in the December elections because they do not have constituencies to vote in.

This is because the three communities are torn between the Oti Region and the Volta Region.

Their predicament results from the controversial creation of Oti from the Volta Region by the Akufo-Addo government.

The three communities had insisted they preferred to remain in the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region, however, the controversial referendum has meant that they are now torn between Oti and Volta.

In the aftermath of the creation of Oti, the people have been pursuing a court case to be counted into the Volta Region. The Supreme Court recently agreed that they cannot be spread over two Regions and must remain in one.

Yet, nobody knows which Region they fall into, as electorates are uncertain if they are to vote in the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region or in the Oti Region.

Somehow, the Electoral Commission has given a blind eye to their plight leaving the people of the three communities in real danger of being disenfranchised during the December polls.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded a resolution of their predicament.
