Minority Leader Demands List Of Missing Voters On Register

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, has hinted that the Minority in Parliament may take an action against the Electoral Commission (EC) following the mysterious disappearances of names of voters from the new register that the Commission compiled.

Speaking in his Tamale South Constituency after an inspection tour of the EC’s voter exhibition fiasco, the Minority leader questioned the mystery disappearances.

“I have requested for a national compilation of these discrepancies in order to guide what will be our next possible action,” he said.

Hon. Haruna Iddrisu announced the demand after observing that the mysterious disappearances of voters from the EC’s register had occurred in his constituency as well.

“So there are major discrepancies in the register and what has been made available to registered voters,” he noted.

The strange disappearances are causing confusion around the country. Many voters, including the MP for Ashiaman, Ernest Norgbey, have complained that they cannot locate their names in the voters’ registers being exhibited in spite of registering.

It would be recalled that on the eve of the exhibition, WhatsUp News reported that sources had said a large chunk of the data that the EC captured had corrupted. The EC’s attempt to retrieve them, however, led to the system deleting many of the names.

Now Mrs. Jean Mensah faces serious public criticism as she had pig-headed the compilation of a new voter register in spite of strong reservation by many stakeholders, including the National Democratic Congress.
