Mass defection hits NPP in Nalerigu/Gambaga

Reports being picked up indicates that over 75 members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency in the North East region have crossed caret to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The defection, was reportedly triggered by the ruling party’s suspension of one Peter Wuni Baaga, a parliamentary aspirants in the constituency.

Mr. Baaga, was in the news recently, for revealing damning information about how Hajia Alimah Mahama had rigged the parliamentary elections that saw her take the seat of the constituency in 2004.

The NPP promptly suspended Baaga for his serious expose.

The disgruntled former NPP executives in the constituency also cited several unfulfilled promises made by the Member of Parliament, Hajia Alimah Mahama as part of the reason for their defection.

Apparently, there has been serious in-fighting within the NPP in the constituency since 2004 as opposing factions tussle with loyalists of Hajia Alimah Mahama, the current Local Government Minister.

Meanwhile, executives of the opposition NDC in the constituency have since welcomed the new members into the party at a meeting where the defectors announced publicly their reasons for breaking away from the ruling party.
