The remain in two of the three persons that President Akufo-Addo has nominated for the Supreme Court Bench today appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament for vetting.
Popular NPP Lawyer, Yony Kulendi and Law Professor, Joy Henrieta Mensah-Bonsu, fielded questions from MPs in hours-long sessions even though the vetting is essentially a formality.
The process however presented Mr. Kulendi, a highly respected Constitutional lawyer, to flex his knowledge of the Law.
The Kulandi@Law founder and Senior partner preferred free advise on many pertinent legal issues, buit what probably stuck out was his promise not to allow his personal relationship with President Akufo-Addo color any judgment that he makes involving either the President or the President’s interest.
Yony Kulendi who evoked so much respect from both sides of the Appointments Committee also advocated for the expansion of the Law School, contending that the high failure rate at the school is only evidence that the inadequacy of space in Law education has made some people casualties.
On her part, Madam Henrieta Mensah Bonsu advocated for the building of more prisons to ease congestion in the existing ones, lamenting that successive governments never paid attention to the need to expand the prisons.
This is the same Henrieta Mensah Bonsu, who presided on the Commission of Inquiry into the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.
The two, together with Appeals Court Justice, Clemence Hornyenuga, have been nominated by President Akufo-Addo for appointment onto the Supreme Court Bench.

Today’s vetting was however smooth sailing, with Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrissu, endorsing Yoni Kulendi’s appointment.
In the case of Justice Henrieta Mensah-Bonsu, the panel always held her in high esteem.
