WhatsUp News has picked up information that the National Identification Authority (NIA) has put its Registration Officers on stand-by for a new software installation on their field computers.
According to sources, Senior Registration Officers (SROs) have been told that the new software to be installed is to facilitate the NIA’s ongoing registration for the Ghana Card.
“We have been told to ready ourselves and that the new installations will start from next week,” a source told WhatsUp News.
The source said it does not know-how exactly the software will operate or what it will do, “but I do not see how they will want to install new software on our laptops when the ones that we have already been using have not really developed any problems.
“Besides, has the NIA informed the public of this new software? I believe that given the sensitive nature of their work and all the tensions in the country…I believe that it would have been more transparent and proper to inform the rest of the country,” the source said.
WhatsUp News has not been able to get through to Mr. Palm Deti, the Public Affairs Director of the NIA for confirmation about the supposed new software to be installed on the laptops of SROs after attempts to get through to him on phone.
Sources have expressed concern that the NIA is being secretive about the upcoming new software installations.
