No Free Food Anymore After Lockdown-Gov’t.

The Akufo Addo administration has warned that there will be no more free food for the poor and vulnerable after the lockdown was lifted today Monday, April 20, 2020.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah revealed today on Accra-based Peace FM that the freebies have ended, “since the partial lockdown has been lifted, there will no longer be free food.”

The government claim it fed 400,000 people at GHC 2 million daily. However, critics have doubted the figure as the “food packages and hot meals” distribution has been fraught with controversy, leading to many supposed beneficiaries claiming they were not served.

The Information Minister quickly clarified that the other incentives promised by the government including waiver of water and light bills for three months would remain in force. “… but the free water and electricity which the President assured Ghanaians in his previous address is still in force for three months,” he said.

The Akufo Addo administration claims it is dedicating some GHC 1.2 billion as coronavirus incentive programme.
