The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to hold an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which will likely result in the cancellation of the party’s panned primaries, Whatsup News has gathered from reliable sources.
The NPP had scheduled the primaries for parliamentary and possibly Presidential for April 25, 2020, but the threatening deadly Covid-19 coronavirus has forced the party to make a rethink.
It is expected that President Akufo Addo would soon announce a total lockdown of the entire country immediately after the NEC meeting of the NPP.
The cancellation of NPP’s primaries will leave a devastating dent on how the party prepared itself for the 2020 elections as no end appears to be in sight about when public mobilisation will be a reasonable thing to do amidst the high contagion rate of the dreaded Covid-19.
The arch-rivals of the governing parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has already completed its primaries for its parliamentary and presidential candidates.
The uncertainty presented by the ravaging Covid-19 is sparking fears that the December 7, 2020 general elections may be at risk of being cancelled.
