Ghana Health Services Bars Doctors From Talking About Covid-19

The Ghana Health Services (GHS) has warned medical personnel from making comments about Covid-19 coronavirus to the media, saying the correspondence has set its “teeth on edge”.

Whatsup News has intercepted a letter written by the GHS to heads of all health facilities in the country, threatening them dire consequences for talking out of line.

“I write to you in no uncertain terms to warn all staff in all seriousness to desist from engaging the media in conversations and discussions on Covid-19 other than education,” signed Dr.Alberta Adjabeng Biritwum-Nyarko, the Eastern Regional Director of GHS.

“The recent spate of media engagements that have set our teeth on edge are one too many and must stop with immediate effect. Anyone found to have given any information to the media on Covid-19 without the express permission of the Regional Director of Health Services will only have his or herself to blame. This is the last note of caution…”

It is unclear if this is a general posture of the GHS or only that of the Eastern Regional Director as medical personnel from the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) among others have been granting interviews to the media about the outbreak in Ghana.
