33 dead, 214 Infected With Meningitis in Upper West

About 33 people have died in the Upper West Region and some 214 have been infected with Meningitis in the past three months says the Ghana Health Services (GHS).

According to Dr. Kuffuor Affreh, the regional director of health service the cases were recorded between January and March.

Meningitis is a deadly bacterial and viral disease that affects the nervous system, particularly fluids surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

The Upper West Region is no stranger to Meningitis, but the Region is now having to cope with it and the scare of the more or equally deadly Covid-19 coronavirus.

Updating the committee on coronavirus in the Region, Dr. Affreh revealed that so far, the Upper West Region had recorded one confirmed case of COVID-19 with 16 primary contacts and 40 secondary contacts traced.

“The Regional Committee is working very hard to prevent further spread of the novel Coronavirus disease in the region.” Dr. Afreh stated
