Coronavirus: Take Cover Nurses Association warns members

Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives’ Association (GRNMA) has advised its members to be alert an take cover if they are not given protective gears in the wake of the devastating Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.

In a March 13, 2020 statement released by the GRNMA, it wants its members to be protected from contracting the deadly flu virus.

“We reiterate the need for the Ministry of health to provide the necessary logistics required to prevent the spread of the virus at the designated Covid-19 Treatment Centres…Nursing and Midwifery managers must ensure that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are available for use by all nurses and midwives working in isolation Units…,” read the statement signed by both the President and the General-Secretary of the GRNMA.

Earlier, the Ghana Health Services (GHS) has written an internal memo to its unit heads admitting that the GHS was short of face masks and hand sanitisers.

Ghana has so far confirmed six cases of the deadly virus. One of the infected persons is the Norwegian Ambassador to Ghana and five other Ghanaians who had “imported” the disease into the country from their travel to Europe and the United States.

Currently, the Covid-19 disease has infected almost 150,000 people worldwide and has killed about 5,000 worldwide, including health workers
