Ghana’s State Transport Company (STC) has instituted strict sanitary protocols at its yards in neighboring Ivory Coast, after the Westerly neighbor confirmed its first case of corona virus infection yesterday.
As part of measures, all passengers are required to wear nose masks before approaching the STC yards in the country.
Also, yard managers have installed sanitizers and water dispensers at vantage points in the yards so that every passenger or potential passenger can cleanse before boarding as STC bus.
According to reports, even taxi drivers who convey passengers to the STC yards are not spared the rigid sanitary protocols.
STC is the biggest transport service provider in the former French colony.
The sanitary measures come after La Cote d’Ivoire confirmed its first case of the deadly corona virus yesterday.
A statement released by its Health Ministry said a 45-year-old Ivorian man who had recently traveled to Italy, is the country’s first victim.
The latest development means all of Ghana’s immediate neighbors – including Togo and
Burkina Faso – have all been caught in the deadly infection which the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a global pandemic.
Ivory Coast now adds to the growing list of African countries which have caught the
disease. Burkina Faso, Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, South Africa, Cameroon, Togo and Morocco have all confirmed infections.
On Tuesday, Morocco confirmed its first death from the infection. An 89-year-old woman who suffered from chronic health problems died from complications from the virus.
