Juventus Locks Down After Three Players Catch Corona Virus

Italian Premier League giants, Juventus, have locked players of its under 23 side into a quarantine after three players from a team that they recently played with tested positive for the deadly corona virus.

The Old Ladies of the Serie A announced the lockdown after three players of Serie C side, Pianese, whom Juve had beaten by a goal, later manifested symptoms and tested positive for the virus.

Consequently, even though no Juventus player has manifested any symptoms yet, it is feared that this will only happen in time given the easy spread of the current contagion in Italy.

The Under-23 players are to remain in their homes until March 8, 2020, by which time any infected persons would show symptoms.

The corona virus contagion in Italy has risen to 1,128 infections, with a death toll of 19 so far. The government’s response has included instructions for people to stay indoors.

The most hit areas are Lombardy, Veneto and Emilia-Romagna, while Bergamo and Milan. Juventus’ penultimate clash with Inter Milan, which was scheduled to be played indoors on Saturday evening, was postponed and is set to take place next May.

Schools will also remain shut in those areas until further notice, while public leisure centres and community centres are also closed. Third-tier football has been suspended, as have rugby, volleyball and basketball leagues.

Both Inter and AC Milan have closed their offices and staff are working from home.
