Deputy Minister’s Son In Police Grips For Rape

A step-son of the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, Barbara Ayisi, has been arrested by the Police for allegedly raping a fellow student at the Ghana National College in Cape Coast.

The Bakano Police this morning arrested Fredrick Ayisi, 21, whose mother doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Cape-Coast North Constituency, on campus and took him away.

Mr. Ayisi, a form 3 student at Ghana National is also the son of Mr. Kojo Ayisi, the Communication Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).

He is said to have lured his victim, a Form 1 student, to visit him and taken advantage of the visit to force himself on the girl.

The case had been reported to the Police by the school authorities. Before the arrest, the families of both the boy and his alleged victim met on the campus of the school.

The Bakano Police says its Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit is the one handling the case and that they have already written to the Attorney General for advice.

Meanwhile, the victim is said to have been put under a counseling program by the school’s psychologist.
