NPP Leaks NDC’s Scholarship Saga -Attempts to deflect own Scholarship Fraud

A leak believed to be coming from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) claims that some officials of the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) enjoyed juicy scholarships from the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC) between 2012 and 2013.

John Abdulai Jinapor, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Joyce Mogtari Bawa who all played key roles in the NDC administration have been targeted in the leak that has since been condemned as a damage control gone bad.

The exact amount received for these scholarships is unknown. But some of the named beneficiaries have rubbished the claim.

“What a crude lie! Fabricated list. I completed Dundee University in 2011 and couldn’t have had a scholarship in 2012. I did not go to Dundee with a scholarship either. Joyce Bawa Mogtari, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah and John Jinapor have neither attended the universities attributed to them or taken the said courses,” rebuts Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who was a former deputy minister of information in the NDC administration.

On her part, former Deputy Minister of Transport and Aide to the NDC Flagbearer, Joyce Bawa called on the public to disregard the claim as fake.

“Please disregard any claims in the fake excel sheet in circulation and claiming among others that I, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, benefited from a GNPC Scholarship to pursue what they claim is an MSc in financial decision analysis”, she posted on her facebook wall.

“I have never pursued any such course, neither have I ever attended the ‘University of Portsmouth’.”

According to Joyce Bawa, she has two second degrees and a professional law degree, all privately funded and non is finance related.

The NDC insists the leak is coming from the NPP as an attempt to deflect its own exposure as having had several of its ministers and members of Parliament illegally taking millions of dollars worth of scholarship from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

The Auditor-General recently released an audit of the GETFund secretariat revealing that rich and powerful politicians have ambushed scholarships meant for brilliant but poor Ghanaian students to continue their studies in Ghana.

The current Minister of Procurement, Sarah Adwoa Sarfo and the Minister of Education and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh were among the beneficiaries captured as beneficiaries in the fraudulent GETFund scholarship.
