…Presiding Member demands accountability
A budget of Ghc11.9million that was approved for the New Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region has allegedly been squandered without anybody knowing what it was used for.
Presiding Member of the Assembly, Boadi Sarpong, has raised the issue within New Patriotic Party (NPP) circles and has vowed to make the MCE for the Assembly account for the money at the appropriate time.
In a a recorded audio address to a WatsApp platform of the ruling party, Mr. Sarpong makes the point that the Ghc11.9million is just the unaccounted for budget that was approved for the Assembly in 2019.
“2018’s own has not come. When we finally add 2018’s own, the amount will be more than Ghc20million, question is, where is all that money? Where are the projects for which the money was budgeted?” he asked rhetorically.
The PM also makes the point that even the budget approved for the Assembly in 2017 has not been accounted for.
“I find it shameful and embarrassing that when President (Akufo-Addo) recently came to New Juaben, we could not show him a single developmental project that we have achieved with all the money given us. So the question is where is the money, what are we going to tell the electorates, patriots?” he said in Twi.
According to the tape which has been leaked to WhatsUp News, the MCE for the area has, in attempt to cover his tracks, resorted to touting projects that the erstwhile Mahama government had done as his achievements. “when the time comes, we will list all the projects and audit them, then we will hear about what all the money given the Assembly was used for,” he said.
He also accused the MCE of sending hirelings to smear him in attempt to silence his questions about the whereabouts of the money but that he will never be silenced.
