Former President John Mahama, and President Akufo-Addo, are embarking on what appears to be warm-up tours of the country this week, as the lead up to the 2020 campaign season builds.
The former President, who is President Akufo-Addo’s arch-nemesis, is starting his tour in the President’s home region, Eastern. President Akufo-Addo, will on his part start his tour in the Central region.
Ahead of the week, the pre-tour situation is that both leaders of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) will be on an excursion with corruption scandals dogging them both. The former President, has his insinuated role in the Airbus scandal to explain away, while President Akufo-Addo has the debilitating Galamsey excavator scandal as nightmare number one.
It is expected that both leaders will come forth on these issues while on tour,
Meanwhile, President Mahama is being tipped to pull more genuine crowds between the two, as he does not have national security and state resources under thumb like Akufo-Addo does.
President Akufo-Addo, however, will have the advantage of having Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, throwing bamboozling economic jargons and jabbing former President Mahama from the sides of the President’s tour. Dr. Bawumia, however, also has hard explanation on why a 40-member committee has been set up to arrest the depreciation of the cedi even though he is on record to have said, the cedi had been arrested.
Bawumia’s absence on that same committee will very likely to be something that may take away from his shine aside of answers that may be expected of him on his share of the corruption that have engulfed the NPP administration.
The tours seem to be a warm up for the crucial 2020electioneering campaign.
