DANGER! Killer Coronovirus Hits Ghana’s Next-Door Neighbour

Latest news from the deadly coronavirus from China indicates that it is knocking closer and faster to Ghana than had been anticipated.

Health officials in Ivory Coast-a country that shares its border with Ghana, have confirmed that a 34-year old Ivorian student who travelled from China may have entered the country with the dreaded Coronavirus disease.

The unnamed woman has reportedly been put in isolation. She has lived in China for the past five years, according to the statement released by Ivory Coast’s health ministry, and had shown flu-like symptoms before boarding the plane to Abidjan.

“Her general state is satisfactory,” the ministry said. “There are, at this stage, suspicions of a case of pneumonia tied to the coronavirus.”

Currently known as 2019-nCoV, the virus is understood to be a new strain of coronavirus not previously identified in humans.

Since the outbreak began in Wuhan, several African countries have introduced extra screening on flights arriving from China.

It is unclear if Ghana has instituted this thorough screening measure as the reports from Ivory Coast sparks fears among citizens.

There are conflicting figures about the death toll from this super-deadly flu epidemic ravaging China.

Some reports claim, over 10,000 people have been infected in China, even though official figures put it at about 2,000 now, with about 70 deaths so far.

Already, countries such as Canada, United Kingdom, France, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, among a growing list have reported cases suspected to be the virus.

The outbreak of the virus is barely a month now and it has raced across the world, as epidemic disease modelling from the United States of America (USA) estimate that the disease could kill up to 30 million people within six months if it not quickly contained.
