Danger! River Tano Contaminated With Deadly Poison

Dead fishes lay strewn on the banks of River Tano on Monday as a truckload of deadly car battery acid somersaulted into the river and spilling its deadly content.

Residents along the river bank have been warned not to consume anything from the river lest they risk sure death from the deadly acid spreading through the river.

According to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Offinso North, the communities; Techiman, Tanoso, Chira, Duayaw Nkwanta and Bechem are to immediately refrain from drinking from the Tano River till further notice.

The District NADMO Coordinator, Mamoa Elijah, in a statement issued on Monday, January 13, 2020, said the order was necessitated by an accident at Tanoso in the Bono East Region, involving an articulated truck carrying car batteries.

On Monday, an articulator truck carrying several litres of car battery from Accra to Tamale got involved in an accident at Tanoso near Techiman in the Bono East region.

Already, the Tano River was just recovering from massive pollution from activities of illegal miners who virtually pour chemicals and muddy silt into the river as an after-effect of their illegal gold mining.
