Akufo Addo’s Jubilee House 6th Most Corrupt in Ghana

The Presidency at the Jubilee House has been confirmed as the sixth most corrupt institution in Ghana by the popular annual Afrobarometer survey by the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD).

According to the latest Afrobarometer survey, of the 2,400 adults interviewed 33% per cent think all of the officials at Presidency headed by President Akufo Addo are corrupt, while 50% thought only some are corrupt.

These findings are revealing, given the fact that before the 2011 and 2016 presidential campaigns, the then-candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo was marketed as a no-nonsense anti-corruption man. The verdict of the survey proves otherwise.

The Presidency in the past has often been in the top ten most corrupt list, however, critics expected that a Presidency controlled by a supposedly proven anti-corruption individual would have changed the status quo.

Indeed, some recent events have confirmed these findings, including a notorious illegal gold mining mafia operating from the Presidency, and allegations of influence-peddling at the corridors of the Jubilee House.

The Special Prosecutor, Martin A.B.K Amidu who was appointed by President Akufo Addo to hunt down corrupt public officials have on several occasions openly expressed his trepidation at the subtle and systematic tactic deployed from the seat of government to deprive him the ability to go after corrupt public officials.

Meanwhile, on the top of the list of the most corrupt institutions in Ghana is the Ghana Police Service which has consistently beaten every other institution to that top spot.

The Judiciary consisting of Judges and Magistrates are the second most corrupt institution in Ghana in what exposes a discredited justice system in the country. Civil servants and tax officials from the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) follow closely on the damning totem of corrupt institutions.

Interestingly, the Afrobarometer reveals that of all the public institutions in the country, the Ghanaian media institution is the least corrupt as perceived by ordinary Ghanaians.

The Afrobarometer findings are mostly trusted because they are compiled based on non-partisan research network that conducts public attitude surveys on democracy, governance, economic conditions and related issues across Africa.
