Former President John Dramani Mahama and the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday paid a courtesy call on the National Executives of Ghana Bar Association (GBA) in a move to woo the fraternity which is currently engulfed in turbulence over happenings at the Ghana Law School (GLS).
According to the NDC, the visit is aimed at familiarising with the challenges and finding solutions to the pressing issues facing the legal fraternity as the NDC prepares its manifesto for the upcoming elections.
Observers think the situation within the legal community presents an opportunity for the NDC to capitalise upon for political gain.
Addressing the gathering, former President Mahama raised issues of national concerns such as dispensation of justice to the ordinary citizen, policy implementation and issues affecting the development of the country.
He expressed worried over the poor nature the infrastructure of court houses across the country.
Mr. Mahama suggested that 5% of the District Assembly’s Common Fund should go to the Judicial Service which he explained that it will ensure all Districts in the country have full legal officer to handle and guide them in procurement processes.
The President of the Ghana Bar Association, Anthony Forson Jnr. commended the NDC party leadership and the flagbearer for their call on the Association adding that; it would go a long way to ensure effective justice delivery system in the country.
On the entourage were Betty Mould Iddrisu, Dr. Benjamin Kumbour, Marietta Brew Oppong and Madam Sherry Ayitey. The rest were Lawyer Abraham Amaliba, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, and Ambassador Sampe Yalley among others.
