2019 MOBEX Innovation Awards Enters Second Day

The 2019 edition of the MOBEX Innovation and Expo Awards entered its second day today with series of panel discussions on issues pertaining to Ghana’s electronic payment sect

Having started with a cocktail network on Wednesday to enable participants warm up to one another, it was all serious business today as a galaxy of experts took turns to give mini lectures to eager participants.

The topics discussed were deliberately centered on the country’s e-payment sector in the wake of the banking sector clean up that is making many people transfer their monies from banks to electronic payment platforms, especially mobile money.

Topics included mobile money fraud, Blockchain, the future of banking and regulation of the e-payment sector.

Some of big name resource persons were Prof. Nii Narku Quaynor, who is renowned as the father of the internet in Africa and Prof. Atu Okine, world famous cyber security expert.

The 2019 edition of MOBEX has also been spiced with the attendance of experts from outside the West African zone and Europe.

Allen Gbeasor, Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Coasters Africa, main organizers of MOBEX Africa Expo, explains that the 2019 edition of the annual program is aimed to serve as platforms for technology creators, enthusiasts and policy makers to converge and forge a common path forward to catalyze the development of the African continent.

According to him, the MOBEX Africa Expo which is in its fifth year running has been the source some great innovations that have already brought change in Ghana for instance.

“His Excellency Vice President Dr. Bawumia’s Ppaerles Port campaign for instance was an idea that started from MOBEX. Two years before, President Mahama attended and spoke about Ghana having a digital center which has since been put up,” he pointed out.

The 2019 edition started on Wednesday with a cocktail event and a CEOs summit, and is continuing today with panel discussions. It will be climaxed tomorrow with an awards night for startups and businesses.

The venue of the three day program is at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
