The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is demanding answers from the police administration after it went dead mute on the arrest of some gun-wielding bandits, alleged to be affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)

The suspects, numbering about 20 are said to be in the grips of the police were arrested at a voter registration centre in the Okaikoi North constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

They were also caught smoking behind the circuit court near the registration centre

Their alleged arrest comes in the wake of similar arrests by the police in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

The same individuals allegedly earlier attacked the office of the Member of Parliament of the area Theresa Awuni and inflicted wounds on some persons that were around.

Some of the suspects are also allegedly on the police wanted list for offences ranging from robbery to murder.

They were allegedly arrested by the Anti-Robbery Unit of the police service. Weapons retrieved from the thugs included live ammunitions, cutlasses among others.

But the National Communication Officer of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi, suspects the security agency it appears to him are scheming to cover up the incident per his intelligence from the police command.

Some NPP bigwigs he claimed have been to the station to seek bail for the suspects.

The NDC is worried that days after their capture, the police have remained quiet about their apprehension when earlier in another case in Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, a similar incident occurred, a sitting Member of Parliament (MP), Collins Dauda was reportedly arrested.

They had seized the whole area as they were ordering to go inside their houses. Amidst plain insults and threat to harm and kill, they were heard saying “You are now running away you should have stood there and face the consequence.”

Another one ordered someone who could not be seen in the video “go inside, where are you going”? Another person insulted in Twi “kwasia”.
