Compulsory Covid-19 Contact Tracing Begins In Ayawaso West

An exercise to compulsorily trace people who have come in contact with Covid-19 patients has begun in the Ayawaso West Municipality today.

A total of one hundred health personnel and security agents, including military and Police officers will go round from house to house to test occupants of homes from which patients have been traced to.

A circular from the office of the Municipal Director of Health, Dr. Louisa Matey, said the exercise, after starting today, will continue till the 10th of April, 2020.

“We wish to crave the indulgence of every person residing within the Municipality not to panic but to kindly cooperate with the team of health personnel and security agencies to ensure the success of this exercise,” the circular read.

It noted that the Ayawaso West Municipality has been identified as one of the hot spots for the Coronavirus infections, meaning there are people from within the community who have been infected.

The Municipality encompasses communities including Abelnkpe, East Legon, and the college community at the University of Ghana.

Ghana, as at today, has 198 confirmed coronavirus infections, with 5 deaths. However, there have also been 33 recoveries from the disease which has spread to five out of the country’s 16 regions.
