Share the post "Confirmed! Ghana’s Coronavirus Victim Linked To Lincoln School -School Shut Down Indefinitely amidst Panic"
Whatsup News can authoritatively report that the high-brow Lincoln Community School in Abelemkpe has been closed down indefinitely, following confirmation that one of the confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) victim in Ghana had contact with the parents of one of the students in the school.
This realisation has sparked panic in the school and has forced it to close down till further notice. A visit to the school by Whatsup News this afternoon yielded a virtual ghost town.
“We wanted to notify the parents of students in 2c, 4c and Grade 7 directly that one of the patients confirmed with COVID-19 had contact with a parent of a student in your child’s class. The family did not attend school yesterday and will self-quarantine for the next two weeks,” read a notice issued to parents of the bewildered Lincoln Community School.
Meanwhile, other international schools such as the Ghana International School (GIS) and the Swiss-German Schools have all announced indefinite closure. This is clearly because most of the students are from countries in Europe that are currently hit by the Coronavirus, some of them had reportedly recently returned from vacations in Europe and the United States.
“After consultation with the GIS Board of Directors…I will like to announce that Ghana International School will CLOSE at the end of the school day today, 13th March 2020,” read an intercepted communique from GIS to parents and students of the school.
On Thursday, March 12, 2020, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu was forced to make a live broadcast announcing that Ghana has recorded its first two cases of the deadly coronavirus.
The two confirmed patients include a Ghanaian working with the United Nations who just returned from a vacation in Turkey, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Ghana, Grunnar Andreas Holm.
Officials are currently uncertain the trail of people these people have had contact with since their return as Ghana becomes the latest African country to record the China-originated Covid-19.
All of Ghana’s neighbouring countries have recorded cases, including Togo Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast and nearby Nigeria, Cameroon, Senegal, among others.
As at the last count, over 130,000 people have been infected by the pandemic virus worldwide and approximately 5,000 have been killed since the outbreak in December 2019.
